‍‍Port of Port of Antwerp-Bruges faced the challenge of training mooring crews safely and effectively in complex berthing and unberthing procedures. Traditional training methods proved either too risky or overly theoretical. In collaboration with EdTech company OneBonsai, a VR training program was therefore developed, partly based on the 4C/ID instructional design model.

Within this interactive simulation, minimal and critical mistakes were defined in advance. Based on these parameters, employees receive automatic, immediate feedback during and after the exercise. This allows them to train realistically without exposure to danger, gain insight into their mistakes, and improve in a targeted way.

The solution supports both onboarding and performance support, increases internal safety awareness, and simultaneously strengthens the organisation’s external employer brand. In this way, Port of Antwerp-Bruges safeguards crucial operational knowledge and deploys technology purposefully to sustainably enhance safety and efficiency.
